Le Studio Dance Class Descriptions

Pre-Dance

The Pre-Dance class for ages 3-6 is designed to introduce young children to the joys of movement by exploring and expanding their movement range. Building coordination, strength, flexibility, and balance in combination with musical exercises are some of the primary objectives of the class. Pre-Dance Classes involve imaginary scenarios, dance games and props to keep the attention of young students, supplying them with the necessary tools to love dance for a lifetime.

Pre-Ballet

Pre-Ballet for ages 6 to 8 is an introduction to the formalized structure and discipline of ballet class, barre work, and the French vocabulary.

Tap/Jazz

Tap/Jazz for ages 5 to 8 is an alternative to the pre-dance and pre-ballet classes, and is an introduction to basic tap, rhythm steps, and free style movements danced to today's music. This is a fun class that promotes coordination and concentration.

Student Division Ballet (Classical Ballet)

Student Division Ballet is offered for ages 9 to 19 whom are mature enough to begin learning the fundamentals upon which almost all theatrical dance is based. The student follows this carefully structured syllabus in accordance with his or her own physical and mental development. Advancement is made by ability and not necessarily by age. If the student attends all the suggested classes listed for his or her level, advancement to the next level will usually occur in one year. After four years of study girls usually begin pointe technique. We offer levels 1, 2, 3, and 4, placement is determined by ballet instructor.

Adult Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all kinds of dance. A strong foundation in Ballet is important in the growth and development of other forms of dance such as Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop. This class teaches the discipline and exercises of Ballet with a fun and light approach. Dancers will be taught ability appropriate positions, exercises and combinations for the barre and center floor. Beautiful posture, flexibility, strength, and grace are just a few of the wonderful benefits of Ballet.

Jazz

Jass includes strong and sharp movements. It’s a form of dance which demonstrates a dancer’s individual style and originality. Classes explode with energy; consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and turns.

Jumps and Turns

Jumps and Turns is a class that is specifically dedicated to jazz techniques. This involves jumps, turns, leaps, sautés, and chaînés. It is a very vigorous class that helps students advance in their jazz classes.

Contemporary

This class, a fusion of modern, jazz, and ballet, emphasizes artistry and musicality, while it challenges the dancer to move in new, unconventional ways. Joe's style is often fluid and stilted, organic and sensuous yet technical. He blends an innovative vocabulary of movement with emotion and focus on performance. Designed for intermediate students, previous experience with jazz and/or modern dance is helpful.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques. A lyrical dancer’s movements attempt to show the meaning of the music. Lyrical is very passionate. Movements in lyrical dance are characterized by their fluidity and grace, thus ballet is essential for the dancer.

Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop is a fun and energetic class for the student division that is heavily influenced by the evolution of hip hop music and its popularity in media. Hip-Hop combines the elements of various street dance styles and jazz as well. This class allows the students dance in a free form.

Modern

Modern is a dance style that centers on a dancer's own interpretations instead structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing. It encourages dancers to use their emotions and moods to design their own steps and routines. Modern dancers often use their body weight to enhance movement, instead of dancing in an upright posture as in ballet.

Yoga

Yoga is a union of the mind, body, and spirit. It helps create balance in the body by developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits.

Preformance

A class incorporating theatrical movements with all styles of dance, jazz, ballet, tap, hip-hop using music from the hottest and most well known musicals from across the world. This class is fun for all ages and all personality and styles of dancing.
